Rubén (Maozhong) Chávez 鲁本(茂忠)查韦斯 began his training in 1979 under Master Horacio Di Renzo 奥拉西奥·迪·伦佐师父, director of the Kai Men Kung Fu Association 开门功夫协会, where he learned Bei Shaolin Quan 北少林拳 and Taiji Quan 太极拳. In 1988, Rubén started his martial arts teaching career. In 1994, he commenced training in the basics of Hong Sheng Cai Li Fo 鸿胜蔡李佛 with Master Horacio Di Renzo 奥拉西奥·迪·伦佐师父. In 1996, he traveled to Brazil to study Hong Sheng Cai Li Fo 鸿胜蔡李佛 directly under the guidance of Grand Master Chen Guowei 陈国伟师父, continuing without interruption until 2006. In 1998, he traveled to China for the first time, taking several training courses in Jinan City, Shandong Province. There, he participated in the 3rd Wu Shu International Tournament. At the same event, he met Master Sun Deyao 孙德尧师父 of Hao jia men Taiji Mei Hua Tanglang Quan 郝家门太极梅花螳螂拳 and attended a seminar to learn the basics of Hao jia men Taiji Mei Hua Tanglang Quan 郝家门太极梅花螳螂拳.
In August 2000, Rubén Chavez traveled to Foshan City with the goal of broadening his knowledge. There, he visited the renowned Jing Wu Association to exchange insights with the masters, where he met Master Chou Deji 仇德基师父 and began learning Bai Mei Quan 白眉拳. In the same city, Rubén Chavez investigated the origins of the Hong Sheng Cai Li Fo鸿胜蔡李佛拳. Upon arriving at the legendary Hong Sheng school 洪圣馆, the place where this branch has been developing since 1852, he met Master He Zhuohua 何焯华师父, with whom he continues to learn from.
In 2001, Rubén Chavez contacted Master Sun Deyao 孙德尧师父and arranged to travel directly to Qingdao, Master Sun’s hometown. Following this meeting, Rubén committed to studying Hao jia men Taiji Mei Hua Tanglang Quan 郝家门太极梅花螳螂拳more seriously. In 2003, Master Sun Deyao 孙德尧师父 visited Argentina for the first time, leading to the official establishment of Hao jia men Taiji Mei Hua Tanglang Quan 郝家门太极梅花螳螂拳in Buenos Aires Argentina. Master Sun Deyao 孙德尧师父 subsequently visited Argentina several times, prompting Rubén to travel to China and the United States to continue his studies under Master Sun Deyao’s 孙德尧师父 guidance. In 2010, Rubén Chavez was compelled to leave his old Bei Shaolin Quan 北少林拳 school. Afterward, he traveled to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, where he visited Master Zhou Yaoguang 周耀光师父, president of the Guangzhou Bei Shaolin Association, and was accepted as an official member of that organization. In 2012 Ruben was accepted as a disciple of Master Sun Deyao 孙德尧师父.
Rubén Chavez leads the Red Dragon Association, one of the most important entities in Argentina that promotes traditional martial arts and Chinese culture.
